We woke, myself feeling rested and Dan learning that he needed to wear thermals to not wake up freezing in the night. We devoured breakfast then took our time taking down our tent, washing up dishes and brushing our teeth before heading out.
This ‘flat’ walk began with a long and large ascent through the valley to cut across into another valley overlooking Lake Pehoe. We then descended downward before heading back up following the range as it undulated up and down through the valley eventually giving way to Camp Dickson.
The campsite was littered with horses. While owned, the horses roamed free when they weren’t working. We found out the next day that a couple were rudely awoken by a horse breaking into their tent, set on a desirable tuft of grass!
A ranch style reception and rangers station stood beneath a Chilenian flag fluttering in the wind. At the other end of camp stood an alpine style lodge and within it a small bar and restaurant.
We pitched the tent, set up our sleep system, showered and then decided on having pizza at the lodge. We were both hungry despite our caramel dipped wraps! We happily ate while catching up with other hikers, hearing the stories of their day before settling in for another early night.
