Rio Guachaca, Colombia

15th January 2025

The heavy rain continued to pour throughout the night. We felt gratitude that the rain came now and not while we were hiking the Lost City Trek.

Once up, we realised the electricity had gone out from the storm, our toothpaste had become an integral part of a spiders web, and a large black spider with pointed legs happily ascended the outside of our mosquito net. All of these things serving as a small reminder that the jungle can not be tamed!

We crossed the illumonous green garden to the main hub of the lodge where we enjoyed a hearty breakfast alongside fresh pineapple juice and French pressed Colombian coffee. We noted a RummiKub set, and enjoyed several leisurely games, reminiscing about when Dan’s grandmother, Dot, taught me how to play.

These next couple of days had been planned for rest, time to enjoy doing nothing and recharge after seven weeks of non-stop activity, and rest we did. The afternoon was spent sat about lazily reading, writing and game playing. When the rain stopped we ventured out to the river where I stretched out my aching body in the yoga Shala. Later, we enjoyed a dip in the pool, the cold water ridding us of the lingering humidity.

We opted for an early dinner after a long day of doing nothing before heading back to our lodge for another good night sleep.
