About

Hello!

My partner, Dan, and I, Sarah, plan to travel to South America for a few months at the end of November 2024. Additionally, in April 2025, we plan to hike the length of America from the Mexico border to Canada via the Pacific Crest Trail. Postcards from Mordor is a blog that aims to capture moments throughout our journey.

If you know me you’ll probably know the origins of the blog’s name. If you are a new acquaintance, firstly, hello, welcome and nice to meet you. Secondly, as you’ll have likely figured out by now the blog has nothing to do with the Lord of the Rings! The origins of this nerdy blog name came about from a conversation with friends. We were discussing the app, Fantasy Hike, which tracks a person’s virtual journey from the Shire to Mordor based on real-world walking distance. I joked that with all the travelling this year, I would walk to Mordor three times by 2026 to which my friend replied “Send us a postcard!”, and thus, Postcards from Mordor was born.

Postcards from Mordor aims to update friends and family about our travel. We’ve been inundated with support from friends, family and colleagues who have requested regular updates. Neither Dan nor I are big on social media and both of us fail miserably at replying back to a text on time! Therefore, a travel blog which updates everyone in one go seemed like the best solution (even if it is just used by our mums to check in on us to make sure we’re okay!).
